toraya sushi – subiaco

A small menu of typical japanese fare with a tiny bit of flair. We both had the $15.50 ‘large’ lunch special with agedashi tofu and octopus takoyaki. The agedashi tofu was coated in a light crispy batter which turned gelatinous in the (overly) salty dressing. I did enjoy the crispy fried long beans and seaweed garnish. The octopus takoyaki, a dough ball with bits of octopus inside was as good as a deep fried takoyaki could get. I have yet to see the traditional grilled takoyaki served in Perth, only finding its inferior deep fried cousin instead.

They are also open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday. The night menu is more adventurous (I spied beef carpaccio, cheese tempura, fresh oysters and ginger brulee) but imho, overpriced.

Good opportunity to use the Entertainment Voucher (25% off the total bill), making it good value, but probably not worth a detour.
