growers’ green community market–beaconsfield (again)



Growers’ Green is going strong – amongst the fruit and vegetable stalls are vibrant flowers, doggie dinners and, the most wonderful, if a little ramshackle, collection of food stalls. It’s here we have a fabulous breakfast from around the world.





A smooth Fiori coffee perks mum up, while I wait for our crepe to come off the griddle. The piping hot crepe in a cone (just like in Paris) is generously filled with spinach, mushroom and cheese. From the Persian vegetarian stall, a crisp flatbread filled with coleslaw and vegetable pattie is perfectly nourishing breakfast food.




To cut through the savouries, a piece of home made baklava goes down a treat. For dessert (I like the concept of dessert at breakfast…) we share an egg tart, the powdered cinnamon wafting away as we bite into the jiggly custard.

A singer entertains the breakfast crowds, strumming the guitar and belting out classics. There are many tables and chairs and if those are full, the lawn has some of the best seats in the house.

If we had the appetite, we would have eaten through each and every stall – Salvadorian pupusas, Turkish gozleme, fresh muesli, South African meat pastries, frozen yogurt and the very popular breakfast burgers…

Engorged, we sort out our shopping. We zip around to three different stalls for fresh produce. Buy two bunches of roses for $10 (bargain!) and peek at the seafood stall for salmon fillets. We also grab two cartons of Ellah’s free range eggs.

Just before we leave, we spot a really beautiful bakery stall. It’s called Brioche – they are also at the fairly new Poynter Farmers’ Market in Duncraig. Their display is a bounty of croissants, tarts and quiches, it takes a lot of willpower to leave empty handed!




Growers’ Green is a wonderful market, not just for shoppers but for eaters too! It’s also worth looking around – we spotted some seriously innovative worm farms and healthy cacao treats for sale.

    We love this market! Such a fantastic atmosphere, and the gentleman singing the classics is worth coming early for!
    We’d love for you to taste our version of pain Poilane, and let us know how it compares to the real thing. We’ll have it at subi farmers market this saturday for the Organic Trust Festival, also at Poynter and Freo as usual. Love to see you there!

    Trish – Hello again! Just might see you at Freo market this weekend if I can get up early enough… Funny you mention the pain Poilane – I saw something very similar in Abhi’s a few weeks ago. Look forward to tasting your version!
